The design
The lobby is the signature. A large circle of light, natural-toned plank is inlaid into a darker walnut field, sweeping out from the donor wall and setting off the gathering space at the center of the building. Everywhere else, a warm mid-tone plank runs room to room, so the event hall, classrooms and corridors feel like one connected home.
The work
The circle was cut and fitted plank by plank, with the curve scribed so the two tones meet in one clean, continuous line. The rest of the building went room by room, so programs could keep running in the spaces that were not being worked on.
