Overview

New carpet tile for the fifth floor of the Broward County Main Library in downtown Fort Lauderdale, completed in the summer of 2021: the stacks, reading areas, offices and the walkways along the building’s glass walls.

The design

A striated carpet tile in navy, gray and sand runs through the whole floor. The linear pattern follows the long rows of stacks and the open reading areas, and its mix of tones hides the wear of a busy public library.

The work

The library is a working building full of books, shelving and furniture. The crew worked area by area, taking up the old flooring, preparing the slab and laying the new tile around the stacks and reading tables.

Products installed

  • Tarkett carpet tile
A reading area by the windows
Reading tables among the stacks
The floor along the glass walls
The new carpet at the edge of the atrium
